The app stores have hundreds of these, most with similar names, similar screenshots and similar four-star averages. They are not all equivalent, and the difference that matters is not features — it is what they ask for.

This is what to check before you install anything.

What every one of them actually does

No unfollower app has special access. Instagram publishes no unfollow event and no unfollow history. Every app works the same way: read your follower list, read your following list, compare against a stored snapshot.

Which means the feature list is largely marketing. What differs is where that reading happens and who holds the keys.

The one question that sorts them

Read the one-star reviews: Skip the five-star ones. Billing complaints, account lockouts and action blocks cluster in the low ratings.
Read the privacy details: The App Store privacy card lists what is collected. "Contact info" and "identifiers" on an unfollower app deserve scepticism.
Look for auto-unfollow: If it offers to unfollow in bulk for you, it is automation. That breaks Instagram’s terms and is the feature most likely to get your account restricted.
Check what happens on day one: An honest app tells you it needs time to build a baseline. One that shows a full unfollower list instantly is showing non-followers and calling them something else.
