FollowMeter Alternatives: Tracking Unfollowers Without an App

What people actually want from a follower-meter app, and three ways to get it.

FollowMeter is one of the better-known follower tracking apps, and searches for alternatives usually come from one of three places: the subscription, the permissions, or wanting something that works without installing anything.

Rather than listing near-identical competitors, it is more useful to look at the three genuinely different approaches — because they have different trade-offs, and most "alternatives" are the same approach with a different icon.

What follower-meter apps provide

  • Non-follower lists: Who you follow that does not follow back. Instant, and the feature most people came for.
  • Unfollow history: Who left since the last check. Requires stored snapshots, which is what a subscription pays for.
  • Ghost follower detection: Accounts that never engage. Usually a simple heuristic rather than anything sophisticated.
  • Profile analytics: Charts over time. A professional Instagram account gives you most of this free in Insights.

Alternative 1: Instagram’s own data export

Free, official, and the only source with no intermediary. Settings → Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Download your information. Instagram emails you a link within a few hours.

You get complete, dated follower and following lists. Compare two exports a month apart and you have exactly the unfollow history an app charges for. The cost is the wait and a little spreadsheet work.

Alternative 2: A browser-side tool

Our free unfollowers tool gives you the non-follower list in about a minute — search, one-click copy, CSV export — with no account, no password and no install. It runs in your own browser and transmits nothing.

It deliberately does not include bulk unfollowing, and it needs a desktop browser. Those are the honest limitations.

Alternative 3: Another app

If you want background monitoring on your phone, an app is the only way — and any app doing it needs credentials or an authorised connection.

If you go this route, apply the checks in the unfollower apps guide: read the In-App Purchases list, read the one-star reviews, and avoid anything offering bulk auto-unfollow.

Which to choose

  • Just want the non-follower list: Browser tool. Fastest, free, nothing installed.
  • Want a real unfollow history you own: Monthly CSV exports, or Instagram’s data export. Costs patience, not money.
  • Want phone notifications: An app, with the trade-offs understood.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free FollowMeter alternative?

Yes. Instagram’s data export is free and official, and browser-based unfollower tools are free with no account or usage limit.

Do I need an app to see who unfollowed me?

No. An app is only necessary if you want background monitoring on a phone. The lists themselves are available without one.

Are follower tracking apps accurate?

Non-follower lists are exact. Unfollow history is limited by scan frequency, and cannot separate a real unfollow from a deactivated or suspended account.

Why do these apps need my Instagram login?

To check your account while you are not using it, a server has to be able to sign in as you. That is the actual reason, and it is also the main risk.

Can I cancel a tracker subscription after using it once?

Yes — on iPhone, Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not stop the billing.

See who doesn’t follow you back

Free, runs in your own browser, and never asks for your password. Get the full list in about a minute.
